Crimes against women are witnessed all over the world. In Western society, women are more aware to fight any kind of injustice. However, in India in the existing scenario, there are many regions where still their condition is worse due to the lack of education, financial dependency, and lack of stringent laws for the crime against women. This article is a compilation of laws favoring women under the Indian Penal Code, 1860 that every Indian woman must know.
In India, centuries ago where women were worshipped as goddesses, today, the greatest numbers of crimes are reported against women and children. Besides, the traditional, social, or religious pressures have also made them virtual slaves of society. While many Indian women are taking charge of their life and breaking social, cultural barriers for their rights, there are women in small regions who are ill-treated, tortured, fighting for their individuality, respect, and rights. Dowry, female feticide, suicide, prostitution, eve-teasing, abduction, exploitation, and rape are everyday events. Even infants and schoolgirls are not spared. Therefore, the need arises for strict laws favoring women and children.

When a police department records a particular crime, they register the case immediately and begin the investigation, if it’s executed in their field. But when it’s not committed in their jurisdiction, they file the FIR under number 00 ( Zero FIR ) and forward it to the police station, where the offense happened, to continue the investigation.
Regardless of the number of laws to secure the rights and interests of women, the rate of crime against women is increasing daily. However, just laws are not enough to control the increase in crimes against women in our society. The removal of social evils on women from our society and teaching of morals, social ethics, towards women in every human being right from childhood is equally essential to reduce crime rates against women. Still, there is a need to form laws more strict so that any person aiming to commit such crimes hesitates to act and controls in doing so.
